Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2004 Collection: Deliverance
Taking Sidney Pollack's landmark 1969 film 'They Shoot Horses Don't They?' as a starting point, this ambitious fashion performance wowed audiences with an exuberant spectacle engaging with classic McQueen themes of decadence and decay. A massive logistical undertaking with twice the cast of a regular fashion show staged at prestigious Paris venue the Salle Wagram; it also involved co-ordinating McQueen's collaboration with cult London dancer Michael Clark prior to the event. Clark choreographed the 25 dancers and 26 models -who had to be taught to dance- over a four-month production lead-time to mesmerising effect.
